Spring kicks off an active season of public education for the West Chicago Fire District. In the next several weeks, firefighters will visit our local schools to teach our 4th graders fire safety topics. Students get an opportunity to learn about smoke detectors and escaping a mock fire in our fire safety trailer. We are excited to be back at the schools teaching these important lessons! ... Spring Safety Tip #2 - When using household chemicals, don't mix products because they can cause deadly gases or fire.
Spring Fire Safety Tip #3 - When using your grill, make sure that it is at least 3 ft from siding, deck rails, and eaves.
Spring Safety Tip #4 - Keep an eye on your grill, fire pit, or patio torches. Don't walk away from them when they are lit.
Spring Safety Tip# 1 - Store any household chemicals that can catch on fire away from your home.
