Residential Structure Fire - 2000 block of Cherokee Drive

At approximately 1:29 a.m. on 8/9/26, the West Chicago Fire Protection District responded to the 2000 block of Cherokee Drive for a reported residential structure fire. Before the fire companies arrived, all occupants were reported to be safely outside. First-arriving crews found a fire in a bedroom and quickly advanced a hose line into the residence. A nearby fire hydrant allowed crews to establish a water supply. The main body of the fire was extinguished; however, it had extended into the attic, requiring additional ventilation and overhaul operations. Seven occupants and a cat were inside the home at the time of the fire and safely evacuated. No civilians or firefighters were injured, and no neighboring residences were damaged. Following an investigation, the cause of the fire remains undetermined. The West Chicago Fire Protection District would like to thank the numerous surrounding fire departments that assisted our crews with the incident and helped bring the fire under control.
