Plan Reviews
The Fire District is responsible for conducting plan reviews related to life safety areas (egress, fire alarm, fire suppression, etc.) and the applicable codes (2021 ICC with local amendments). The plan reviews are triggered when submitting applicable permits. The Fire District authority to conduct plan reviews applies to projects in both the corporate limits of the City of West Chicago and within the unincorporated areas of DuPage/Kane county that fall under the jurisdiction of the Fire District.
The Fire District conducts most plan reviews in-house and attempts to turn plan review responses around within 3-5 days after receipt of the submittal. Plan review responses and District related fees will be processed through the permit intake entity unless otherwise directed by the Fire District. If you have questions regarding a Fire District plan review response, call the Fire Marshal at (630) 231-2123.
PLEASE NOTE: The Fire District receives submittals after they are turned into the respective permit intake entity (i.e. City of West Chicago project – West Chicago Community Development is the permit intake entity). Plan review submittals MUST be first submitted to the permit intake entity. The Fire District will not take submittals directly.
If you have a project in the corporate limits of the City of West Chicago, please call Community Development for permit requirements at (630) 293-2200 or visit their website for more information: https://westchicago.org/community-development/
If you have a project in the unincorporated areas of the Fire District, please contact the following for permit requirements:
