| On August 20, 2026, at approximately 8:49 p.m., the West Chicago Fire Protection District responded to the 31W100 block of Hawthorne Lane for a reported residential structure fire. The homeowner reported smoke and sparks coming from an electrical outlet and safely evacuated the residence before the fire companies arrived. Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke coming from the home and confirmed a fire in an upstairs bedroom. All occupants were accounted for and safely outside. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and contained it to the room of origin. Utilities to the residence were secured, and the home was subsequently deemed uninhabitable by the DuPage County Building Department. Following an investigation, the cause of the fire remains undetermined, but is not suspicious in nature No civilians or firefighters were injured during the incident.
