The West Chicago Fire Protection District has twelve full time paramedics and paramedic/firefighters that man the districts two ALS ambulances.  These positions are filled by a contract with Paramedic Services of Illinois.  Paramedics are in most cases, crosstrained to operate as firefighters and paramedics. PSI has been a cost effective way of providing Advanced Life Support Care to the public since 1988. Most surrounding communities including Winfield, Carol Stream, Bartlett, St. Charles, Geneva, and Batavia use PSI for the staffing of their ambulances.
